Day 40 - John the Baptist
Read: John 1:6-34
Reflect: The book of John is one of the four gospels that follow the life of Jesus. The first chapter of John talks about how John the Baptist was sent to the world to go before Jesus and tell everyone about him. John knew that he was not the Messiah and that his job was to make the way for Jesus. The Jewish people asked John who he was and he simply responded that he was not Christ and he is not the prophet. After this, he was baptizing people in the Jordan River and he saw Jesus. He tells everyone that this is the Messiah. Through all of this, John did not know who the Messiah was or when he was coming, but he had the faith to keep baptizing people until he met Christ. If it was not for John the Baptist, many people would not know who Jesus was. John denied every aspect of himself to follow Jesus and tell everyone about the Messiah. John’s faithfulness to Christ shows us that we must deny who we are and talk to people about who Christ is. We may not be preparing the way for the Messiah to come save the world, but we are to tell people about the Messiah so that they can join us for an eternity in Heaven.
Respond: How are you going to deny yourself to tell people about Jesus Christ?
