Mt. Hope Bible Camp in Otway, Ohio, has been bringing young people to its grounds to hear about Jesus since 1973. The camp began under the leadership of Dale and Belva Beery, who then served with our mission, on land donated by the man who introduced current camp director Brett Wilson to Jesus. While the campgrounds and programs have expanded since its beginning, Mt. Hope stands firm that “The Bible is still our middle name.”
Today, Brett and Sara Wilson serve as the directors of Mt. Hope Bible Camp. They oversee a busy summer of camping for kids ages 8-18, while also working to develop relationships with the staff. The camp’s leadership training program, of which the Wilsons themselves are graduates, prepares young people to serve not just at camp but in the church as a whole.
Between the months of October and May, the camp continues to reach out to the youth in the area through its weekend camps program, where kids can come, one weekend a month, to connect with their camp friends and to hear the truth of God’s Word. The camp also offers special events for adults, such as Ladies’ Spring Luncheon, Men’s Harvest Dinner, and Mt. Hope Bible Camp Trail Walk/Run. These events encourage joint fellowship among area churches, and in fact, representatives of more than ninety different congregations were present as campers or staff members during summer camp in 2012.
The Wilsons ask supporters to pray that all of the camp’s future decisions be closely aligned with God’s call to make disciples and teach them to observe His commands (Matthew 28:19-20) and that campers will arrive at camp with their hearts prepared to learn how to follow Jesus. Other ways you can support the ministry include donations (to keep the cost of camp low so many can come), volunteering, and encouraging young people in your sphere of influence to join the camp’s summer staff or come as campers.
