Day 5 - Rahab

Tori Roessler

Read: Joshua 2:9-14

Reflect: Rahab the harlot, faithful to God.  Rahab was a  Canaanite, a heathen, and a prostitute. Surely a woman such as her would never be interested in God, right? Wrong. In verse 11, Rahab tells the spies who the God they serve is, how He is THE God, not just *a* god. She barely knew anything about the Lord, but she had heard of how He worked. With a broken past and very little knowledge of who God truly was, Rahab put all of her trust in the God of Israel. Rahab recognized that the God of the Israelites was all-powerful, we serve the same God today.

As a prostitute, Rahab was looked down upon. She lived on the edge of society, just one stop short of rejection. While the rest of Jericho was afraid of what the God of the Israelites had done, Rahab began to put her trust in Him. She served God faithfully by hiding the spies that were sent into her land. She did not let fear affect her faith in God’s ability to deliver her. God remembers Rahab’s faith, not profession.

Respond: God’s faithfulness to us is not dependent on our faithfulness to Him. Meditate on that thought throughout your day. The past is a struggle that is hard to face; regret screams, shame echoes, and the devil stands on your shoulder, reminding you of all you have ever done wrong. Look to the Bible to find who God is, what His character is, and learn to trust in it. Focus today on having simple faith, just trusting in God and who He is.
