Day 39 - Samson

Zach King

Read: Judges 15:14-17

Reflect: One of the most powerful examples of Samson's faith in God can be found in Judges 15:14-17. At this point in his life, Samson had already been betrayed by his wife and had killed a group of Philistines in revenge. The Philistines, in turn, had attacked Samson's people, the Israelites, and Samson was determined to seek revenge once again.

Samson went to the Philistines' stronghold and began to attack them. The Philistines, who greatly outnumbered Samson, were able to capture him and bind him with ropes. They planned to kill him, but Samson knew that he still had a purpose to fulfill.

In that moment, Samson called out to God and prayed for strength. He said, "Sovereign Lord, remember me. Please, God, strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes." (Judges 16:28)

God heard Samson's prayer and granted him the strength he needed to break free from his bonds. Samson then picked up the jawbone of a donkey and used it to slay a thousand Philistines.

This story is a powerful example of Samson's faith in God. Even in his darkest hour, when he was outnumbered and outmatched, Samson knew that God was with him. He trusted that God would provide him with the strength he needed to fulfill his purpose, and God did not disappoint him.

Respond: Samson's story is a reminder that even when we face impossible challenges, we can have faith in God to see us through. Like Samson, we can call out to God for help and trust that He will provide us with the strength and courage we need to overcome our obstacles.
