Day 30 - Nicodemus

Read: John 3:1-17; John 7:50-52; John 19:38-42

Reflect: Did you know Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus when he speaks the famous verse John 3:16?  Nicodemus was a rabbi that liked Jesus but kept it a secret. In this passage of scripture it begins with Nicodemus coming to speak with Jesus at night so that he may not be seen. Then Jesus started speaking to Nicodemus about how somebody is “born again.” Nicodemus does not understand this concept and continues asking how somebody can be born again when they can't go back into their mothers womb. In response Jesus tells him that he cannot go to the kingdom of God unless he is entirely spiritually reborn. Nicodemus then asks him how. Jesus goes on to tell him that he should know these things since he is a rabbi.  He tells him that if he doesn't believe in earthly things why would he believe heavenly things that he tells him. He ends with telling him that whoever believes in him will have an everlasting life with him. If you read the other passages of Scripture, it leads us to believe that Nicodemus eventually placed his faith in Jesus and followed Him.

Respond: Are you going to be like Nicodemus and come to Jesus? Do you have faith that you will have an eternal life with Jesus in heaven? We need to learn to have faith in the Lord and come to him.
