Day 34 - Elisha

Nick Hayslip

Read: 2 Kings 6:16-17

Reflect: Elisha was a prophet in the Old Testament who followed in the footsteps of Elijah. Elisha's life was marked by his unwavering faith in God and his willingness to trust in God's plan, even when it seemed impossible.

One of the most striking examples of Elisha's faith can be found in 2 Kings 6. The king of Aram was at war with Israel, and he kept sending his army to attack the Israelites. But every time he did, Elisha would tell the king of Israel where the Aramean army was and what they were planning to do. This happened so many times that the king of Aram became convinced that there was a spy in his midst.

But one of the king's officers told him that it wasn't a spy, but Elisha the prophet who was revealing their plans to the king of Israel. So the king of Aram sent his army to capture Elisha. They surrounded the city where Elisha was staying, and Elisha's servant was terrified. But Elisha said to him, "Don't be afraid. Those who are with us are more than those who are with them." (2 Kings 6:16)

Then Elisha prayed, "Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see." (2 Kings 6:17) And the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he saw that the hills around the city were full of horses and chariots of fire, sent by God to protect Elisha and his servant.

Elisha's faith in God never wavered, even in the face of impossible odds. He knew that God was with him, and he trusted in God's protection. And God was faithful to Elisha, sending His angels to protect him and his servant. Are there times in your life where you let your faith in God waver?

Respond: May we follow Elisha's example of faith in our own lives, trusting in God's plan and protection even when things seem impossible. May we remember that those who are with us are more than those who are against us, and that God is always faithful to His promises.
