Day 26 - Job
Read : Job 1:20-22
Reflect: The book of Job is thought to be one of the oldest books in the Bible. Upon reading, we are immediately introduced to the main character….Job. God Himself describes Job as perfect, upright, even going as far as to say there was none like him in the entire world. However, even though Job lived his life daily walking as God required, that was not enough to keep Satan from wanting to destroy Job.
So with God’s permission, the devil began to systematically take from Job those things that were important to him. He destroyed Job’s livelihood, his family, and even his health. It’s safe to say that Job suffered more than any of us can imagine. And yet, these verses show us how Job responded to his circumstances. It’s true that Job was upset, even angry at his situation. But the Bible says that Job worshipped the Lord. He acknowledged the authority of God and continued to praise Him and bless the name of the Lord.
Respond: All of us at one time or another, have experienced hardships. While perhaps not on the scale that Job did, we’ve all had to deal with the pain or loss of something. Maybe someone close to us has been taken. Or perhaps something important has not gone the way we had hoped for. How we respond during these times says a lot about where we have have placed our hope, our trust, and our faith. Evangelist Charles Swindoll is quoted as saying, “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.”
The next time you feel the pain or the loss of someone or something, think about how God would have you respond to it. Use it as an opportunity to develop the character and faith to tackle life’s future setbacks.
